Funny Girl
Funny Girl (La Graciosa and Rare Girl in Latin America and A funny girl b> in Spain), is a 1968 musical film directed by William Wyler and based on the homonymous play by Isobel Lennart. The film is especially remembered for being her debut in the cinema of Barbra Streisand, with the role of her that she had made her famous in the theaters of Broadway (New York) and London. It had its sequel in 1975's Funny Lady.
Plot
The film follows the life of comedian Fanny Brice (Barbra Streisand), from her days in the lower-class Jewish neighborhoods of New York to the height of her artistic career with the Ziegfeld Follies. During this time, Fanny marries Nick Arnstein (Omar Sharif), from whom she ends up divorcing.
Production
In the original Broadway musical, Anne Bancroft would be cast to star in the musical, but she didn't like the songs they proposed to her, so they looked for Barbra Streisand and Sidney Chaplin, she got the second Tony nomination for best actress in a musical, who lost to Hello Dolly star Carol Channing.
