Friðrik Erlingsson
Friðrik Erlingsson (Reykjavik, Iceland, March 4, 1962) is a musician, designer and writer.
Friðrik began his artistic career when Purrkur Pillnikk was officially born on March 8, 1981, an avant-garde punk group led by Einar Örn Benediktsson along with Ásgeir Ragnar Bragason, Bragi Ólafsson, and Friðrik on guitar. During his tenure, Purrkur achieved great prestige through performances in Iceland and the rest of Europe.
The first release was Tilf, in April 1981. This album also gave the official baptism of the Gramm Records label, managed by Einar himself together with his friend Ásmundur Jónsson. Tilf was followed by Ekki Enn in August of the same year, and in 1982 they released two more albums: Googooplex in February, No Time to Think in September, and in 1983 Maskinan came out. The latter is made up of songs corresponding to the presentations between the start date and the official termination of the group, on August 28, 1982. All the records were released through Gramm Records.
In 1983, abandoning music, he graduated from the Icelandic School of Arts and Crafts, and has since worked as a creative in an advertising agency.
In 1986 he returned to music as a guitarist for the group Sykurmolarnir, which later became known as The Sugarcubes. The group consisted of singer Björk Guðmundsdóttir, trumpeter and singer Einar Örn Benediktsson, drummer Sigtryggur Baldursson from Þeyr, Þór Eldon Jónsson on guitar, and bassist Bragi Ólafsson. With them, she released the single Einn Mol & # 39; á Mann , the same year the group was formed that served to capture the attention of British critics. After the single, Erlingsson leaves the group.
He has also written and translated many songs, scripts for television and film, as well as biographies and works of fiction for people of all ages. His novel Benjamín Dúfa (Benjamín Paloma) about the life of a group of young Reykjavík residents around the last half of the twentieth century was published to great expectation in 1992. The book it received several awards and was translated into 5 languages and a film was also made, which was well received both in Iceland and abroad.
Friðrik's most recent job was as a screenwriter for the animated film Litla Lirfan Ljóta (The Lost Caterpillar) which premiered in Reykjavik in August 2002.
Also in 2002 he received the Reykjavik Scholastic Prize for his translation of Mona Nilsson-Brattström's book, Tsatsiki og Mútta (Tsatsiki och Morsan ).
