Example of the scope of English in the French language spoken in France

By franglais (from French français + anglais, "French" + "English") or franglés (literal translation into Spanish) can be understood:

  1. The inappropriate and abusive use of anglicisms in the French language, when there are equivalent and more appropriate expressions in French.
  2. English and French mix. This can be due to a poor knowledge of one of the two languages, or with humorous or parody intentions. If an Englishman tries to speak French (or a Frenchman tries to speak English) and fill the gaps with English words or false friends with the wrong meaning, the result is the Frenchman.

Franglés is the francophone equivalent of spanglish. Not to be confused with Quebec French, which, due to its relationship with the Anglophone community, has imported a large number of expressions from English, and began substituting those words with their French meanings "correctly".
