The national flag of Uzbekistan was adopted on November 18, 1991.

The 12 stars represent the 12 provinces (viloyat) of the country. The blue stripe represents heaven, the white stripe represents justice, and the green stripe represents hospitality, the two narrow red stripes represent strength. The waning Moon represents the renewal or reappearance of the country after its long disappearance in the Soviet Union or the traditional Islamic base of the culture of the majority of the population.

A second explanation of the flag says that the 12 stars represent the 12 months, or 12 signs of the zodiac, that the white stripe represents cotton, the country's main crop, and that the waning moon represents Islam.

A third explanation says that blue represents water, white represents peace, and green represents nature, with the red lines of life force connecting each component.

A fourth explanation says that the 12 stars represent the word Allah in script called aliphato.

The word Allah in simple Arabic.
