Flag of romania
The flag of Romania is a tricolor flag composed of three vertical stripes of equal width, blue being the one closest to the staff, yellow being the central one and red being the furthest from the staff. Although the use of these colors is older, they began to be used as an emblem of the Romanian national movement since 1834. The current arrangement dates back to 1864, even to the first declaration of independence of Wallachia in 1821 made among others by Tudor Vladimirescu, although since then Some modifications have been introduced. In 1947 the shield with the royal arms was removed to replace it with that of the Socialist Republic of Romania.
On June 26 of each year, Flag Day (Ziua Tricolorului in Romanian, literally "the Day of Three Colors") is celebrated, which is a national holiday. in Romania.
The flag of Romania is very similar to that of Moldova, with whom it shares historical and cultural ties. It is also very similar to the flag of Chad (they only differ in the shade of blue), although they are not related, and to the flag of Andorra.
Origins

The colors red, yellow and blue have long been used by Romanians as their symbol, or have been used by foreigners to designate them. The oldest surviving written testimony was from April 14, 535 AD, when Emperor Justinian I established the symbol of the territories controlled by the archbishopric of Justiniana Prima, which comprised parts of Pannonia Secunda, Dacia Cisdanubiana and Dacia Transdanubia: "From the right side, in the firstdivision, a red shield, in the center of which some towers will be seen, a symbol of the Dacia beyond, in the second division, a heavenly shield with the signs of the “Buri” tribe (Getho-Dacia tribe), whose two sides are white, and in the middle - golden color". These colors are also those used in the diplomas issued by the Romanian owner Michael the Brave, and also in his shields and the ornaments of his shields. It is also worth mentioning the presence of these three colors on tassels and on the flag used by Tudor Vladimirescu in his uprising against the Phanariots. It was then that blue was first associated with freedom (the blue of the sky), yellow with justice (the yellow of the fields) and red with brotherhood (the red of blood).
Historical flags
The national flag of Romania when it was a socialist republic (1947-1989), had the national coat of arms in the center of the yellow stripe. During the 1989 revolution, many flags with the shield cut out could be seen, and the new government decided not to add any shield to the flag, remaining the same as the civil flag during the Kingdom of Romania (1881-1947).
To avoid confusion with the flag of Chad due to the similarity in design, the blue stripe on the flag of Romania is lower than that used on the previous flag during the existence of the republic.
