The Qatar flag has dimensions of 11:28. It is maroon in color with a notched vertical stripe (with nine white teeth). At first it was red, but exposure to the sun darkened this color, a circumstance that led to changing this color to the current garnet.

Adopted on July 9, 1971, it bears many similarities to the Bahrain flag, but its proportions and colors are different.

The color white means peace; garnet highlights the blood in war.
