Flag of Maracaibo
The Flag of the city of Maracaibo (Venezuela) consists of three rectangular stripes of equal size, with the colors white and red, this is because on September 8, 1991 the Standard of Maracaibo was adopted. San Sebastián, patron of the city, as the official flag of the Maracaibo Municipality of the Zulia state.
On August 24, 1997, on the occasion of the celebration of the 500 years of the discovery of Lake Maracaibo and considering that this was a definitive element to promote the settlement of the population that gave rise to the founding of the city that It bears its name, at the mercy of its lake communication, a third blue stripe is added to the Official Flag of the Maracaibo Municipality of the Zulia state.
The Official Flag today is made up of the colors white, red and blue, in equal and horizontal stripes united in the order expressed from top to bottom, the white color symbolizing the purity of the Patron Saint, the red the spilled blood for the martyr when he dies fighting for his ideals; and blue, the nobility of Lake Maracaibo. In the upper left part of the white stripe there is, in full color, the Coat of Arms of the city Decree No. 10 of the Mayor's Office of Maracaibo.
