Ferris Bueller's Day Off (An expert in fun in Latin America and All in a Day in Spain) is a 1986 American film written and directed by John Hughes.

Plot

Ferris Bueller is in his bed, reportedly running a high fever. His parents believe him and leave him alone in the house, but his sister Jeanie doesn't believe him, becomes furious and tries to unmask him.

Meanwhile, the school has a rumor that Ferris is VERY ill. Cameron Frye, Ferris's best friend, is also absent from school and is alone in his house. He tells Ferris that "he's dying," but Ferris doesn't believe him, so he forces him to go out and take a day off.

During class, Sloane Peterson, Ferris's girlfriend, is told that her grandmother died, making her very sad.

School principal Ed Rooney thinks Ferris is up to something when he gets a call supposed to be from Sloane's father, though he thinks it's Ferris pretending to be Mr. Peterson, so he sets him up, until Ferris calls. by another line - in reality Cameron was who pretended to be Mr. Peterson -. The principal tells him that he can go pick up Sloane. Without a car to go in, Ferris and Cameron are "forced" to use his father's Ferrari 250GT California, who takes great care of it and, according to Cameron, "loves this car more than life itself."

Going to find Sloane, Ferris, disguised so Rooney won't catch him, cheekily kisses his girlfriend in full view of Rooney, who is outraged by the liberties some modern fathers take with their daughters. The three drive to the city of Chicago and leave the car in a parking lot that Cameron doesn't trust. There, the car is used by the two young men in charge of the garage to have a good time, they too.

In Chicago they decide to do everything, so first they go to a fancy restaurant, where they have a small dispute with a man from the restaurant, which ends in another typical fake call from Ferris to the police, which convinces him to the Maitre d' to give them a table and all the services.

Meanwhile, Rooney tries to expose Ferris and picks him up at the house. But different things happen to her, from getting bogged down and losing a shoe in the mud to a vicious fight with the house dog. Upon entering, Jeanie finds him "red handed" inside the house and beats him, whereupon she calls the police.

Ferris, Sloane and Cameron continue the ride and go to an art museum. Then Cameron tells them they haven't done anything interesting all day, so Ferris heads off to the St. Patrick's Day parade, which is going on at that very moment, and sings "Danke Schöen" to the crowd. by Wayne Newton and "Twist and Shout" of The Beatles. They then go back to the parking lot, receiving the car without any damage. But Cameron is shocked when he realizes that the mileage went up excruciatingly from the boys leaving the garage, whereupon he passes out.

Meanwhile, Jeanie ends up at the police station because the officers thought the call accusing Roonie (who narrowly escapes in very bad condition) was a practical joke. Delayed, she finds herself sitting next to a drug addict with whom she speaks little, though they later kiss. The mother talks to the commissioner to clear up the misunderstanding just as she was about to sign an important contract. Furious, she takes Jeanie home, as her father also arrives.

In an attempt to snap Cameron out of his shock, they take him to the house pool where he fatally falls and ends up sitting up at the bottom, prompting a desperate Ferris to rescue him. Then Sloane and Ferris realize that Cameron was making fun of them because he was conscious and awake the whole time. To fix the car's mileage issue, they try to "count it down" making the car go in reverse, but with a freewheel resting on a cricket, but this doesn't work. Cameron is enraged, makes a violent catharsis while telling them that he is tired of his father and that he is going to face him, he kicks the car in the front, the cricket gives way and the car goes backwards and falls through the high window to the ground, at the back of Cameron's house. Not knowing what to do, he tells the boys that he's going to talk to his father and take over his life and the fucking wrecked car.

Ferris and Sloane say goodbye and leave. Realizing that his parents are already on their way home, Ferris runs as fast as he can there, trying not to be discovered. Upon arrival, Principal Rooney intercepts him, however Jeanie arrives in time to save Ferris, who just in time gets into her room, exactly when her parents arrive at the house quite furious for Jeanie and her outrages..

Influence on popular culture

The rock band called Save Ferris takes its name from this movie, they were a One-hit wonder who had the success of the song titled Come On Eileen.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off was no exception and the singer Aspen Bronx released the song Día de pinta where he himself acknowledges on the Genius.com site that this movie was one of his main inspirations to create the song.

The post-credits scene of the movie Deadpool is based on the same final scene of this movie, paying tribute to it, as Ferris Bueller and Deadpool break the fourth wall. Additionally, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the chase Peter Parker has with the villain's truck resembles the one Ferris Bueller has in part of the movie.
