Fernando Alonso Alonso (Burgos, 1941) is a Spanish writer. His best-known book is The little man dressed in gray (1978), with illustrations by Ulises Wensell.

Biography

Fernando Alonso Alonso studied part of his baccalaureate in the Basque Country and years later moved to Madrid to study a degree in Romance Philology at its University. It is in this city where he established his residence and where he has developed his professional life in the publishing field and on television.

He began traveling at a very young age throughout Europe and to more than twenty countries spread over four continents. His wife is originally from the Philippines. He has been living in Nerja (Málaga) for thirty years.

On the other hand, he turns out to be one of the most relevant authors in the panorama of Children's Literature. His extensive literary work has been translated into several languages such as English, French, Swedish or Korean. Among his numerous awards, the & # 34; Lazarillo Award & # 34; of 1977 and the "José Martí World Prize for Literature" in 1997 for the extensive set of his work.

Literary training or characteristics of his work

In his literary training, the author has highlighted the importance of traditional stories of oral transmission; Later, to mention a few, he was influenced by among others: The Thousand and One Nights, Jonathan Swift, the picaresque novel, Quevedo, Larra, Poe, Stevenson, Kafka, Camus, Borges and León Felipe. 1995 : Special Diploma from the José Martí World Literature Prize for his entire body of work.
1997: José Martí World Literature Prize for his body of work, awarded by the José Martí Foundation among 103 candidates representing 30 countries. And the Special La Rosa Blanca Prize from UNEAC (Union of Writers and Cuban artists).
2006 : The CEPLI of the University of Castilla-La Mancha presents its candidacy for the Astrid Lindgren International Award for all of his work. The Award jury nominates him as a candidate. And he won the 2nd JUUL Prize, awarded by vote among the readers of the Ikastolas de Euskal Herría to Paperzko Gizontxoa (The little paper man).
2007 : Nominated, for the second time in a row, as a candidate for the Astrid Lindgren International Award for his body of work.
2008: On September 28, he is nominated as a candidate for the 2008 Astrid Lindgren International Award.

Other acknowledgments: Much of his work has been included in the White Raven selection made by the International Library of Munich. In 1997 the City Council of Laguna de Duero, Valladolid, unanimously agreed to name one of his squares after him. On June 1, 1999, the Laguna de Duero City Council inaugurated a monument in the square that bears his name. The sculpture, by Lorenzo Duque, inspired by El bosque de piedra and Sopaboba, represents a block of stone and an adult lifting up a child, who writes on the stone. On one side there is a plaque with the legend He wrote for the children, they now write for him. The child writes on the stone block: PLAZA FERNANDO ALONSO.
