Fernando Abad Becquer
Fernando Abad Bécquer (born Madrid, January 30, 1955) is a Spanish politician, mayor of Leganés between 1983 and 1991, regional deputy in the III and IV legislatures of the Madrid Assembly, vice president of the Madrid Assembly and senator in the Cortes Generales.
Biography
Graduated in Law and specialized in Criminology.
He joined the PSOE and the General Union of Workers in 1974. He was a member of the Regional Executive Commission and the Regional Committee of the Socialist Party of Madrid, formerly the Madrid Socialist Federation (FSM-PSOE).
Mayor of Leganés after the resignation of the newly elected Ramón Espinar Gallego between 1983 and 1991, the year in which he was replaced by José Luis Pérez Ráez and regional deputy in the III and IV Legislatures of the Madrid Assembly. He was Third Vice President of the Madrid Assembly during the 1991-1995 legislature and Second Vice President of the Madrid Assembly 1995.
He was appointed senator in the Cortes Generales by the Madrid Assembly in 1994, replacing Paquita Sauquillo. He worked professionally as a criminologist and is an expert in juvenile delinquency and new forms of urban delinquency. He is an official on leave of absence from INSALUD and from the City Council of Leganés (Madrid).
In April 1994, Abad was implicated, along with another regional socialist leader from Madrid, former councilor Virgilio Cano, in a scandal within the Madrid Socialist Federation. Both were investigated by the Ethics Commission of the WSF-PSOE as a result of the accusations about an alleged unjustified increase in assets. Given these accusations, the Ethics Commission issued a recommendation not to include said deputies in the electoral lists.
He is currently the general secretary of the Association of Cooperative Management Companies GECOPI and a professor at UNED.
