Feature film

A feature film is a full-length film. The minimum duration differs according to the legislation of each country or organization that defines it. A minimum duration of forty minutes is established, according to the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute and the British Film Institute., or 60 minutes, according to the Dictionary of the Spanish language, published by the Royal Spanish Academy.

History

The first documented feature film in history is Lubin's Passion Play, a Passion play produced by the Lubin Manufacturing Company and released in January 1903. The film, directed by Siegmund Lubin, was divided into thirty-one parts, with a total duration of sixty minutes. The French company Pathé Frères would launch —just a few months later, in May of the same year— its own film representation of the Passion of Christ: The Life and Passion of Jesus Christ, divided into thirty-two parts and lasting forty-four minutes.^{[citation required]}
