Family Tree is a box set by Icelandic singer Björk. The box consists of 5 mini-CDs with rarities and previously unreleased material, 1 CD of greatest hits selected by Björk herself and 1 book with lyrics.
It contains songs made with groups prior to his solo stage, such as KUKL or The Sugarcubes; innovations in his style and shows all his evolution from the 80s to 2002.
The complete set was released in November 2002, along with the Greatest Hits compilation.
This collection is made up as follows:
- 6 CD:
- "Roots 1"Roots): a collection of recorded songs with groups prior to their re-launching as soloist. Like "Yesðasta Ég" recorded with The Elgar Sisters or "Ammæli" with The Sugarcubes.
- "Roots 2": more mature songs in your career that include elements of your previous works.
- "Beats"Ritmos): a collection of different rhythms that marked milestones in his career
- "Strings 1 and 2"Pills): new versions of some of his great songs played by the English string quartet The Brodsky Quartet between 1999 and 2000
- "Family Tree": great successes selected by Björk
- 1 book:
- "Words"Words): a book with the lyrics of Björk's favorite songs in his career.
In addition, the covers of the envelopes and booklets are accompanied by surreal drawings by contemporary Icelandic artist Gabríela Friðriksdóttir.
