Exploration seismology is a specialized part of seismology that is divided into two methods: reflection seismology and refraction seismology. Basically both methods are used to find features in the subsurface, using a source of seismic waves and a group of sensors that will record the movements coming from the subsurface.

These methods are governed by the following points:

    1. The theory of efforts and deformations
    2. The Hooke Act
    3. The elastic Constants,
    4. The Theory of Propagation of elastic waves
      1. Snell Law (Reflection Law)
      2. Refrection Act
      3. Principle of Huygens
      4. Principle of Fermat
      5. Law on Reciprocity and Apparent Speed
      6. Parallelism Act
