Everquest

EverQuest (EQ) is a famous MMORPG that was released in March 1999. The original design is credited to Brad McQuaid, Steve and Bill Trost. 989 Studios financed development and initially published the game, before Verant Interactive took control. Sony Online Entertainment later acquired Verant, and now SOE distributes and manages EverQuest. Before, you had to pay for the game and a monthly fee to be able to play, but recently they have made it a completely free game.

Description

In the world of EverQuest, the player explores a world reminiscent of Tolkien's fantasy world, with swords and magic, fighting monsters for treasure and experience points while interacting with other players. The further players progress, they level up, gaining power, prestige, and abilities. They can also get items for their characters in many ways, from killing monsters (and collecting the loot they carry), carrying out quests (which are procured for them by non-player characters), or getting basic materials (wood, iron, gold, etc.)...) and forging them by hand. It inherits a large part of its structure and rules from the famous role-playing games Dungeons and Dragons (Dungeons & Dragons), as well as from the MUDs, especially DikuMUD.

The game has a rich 3D environment, in the fictional world of Norrath, its moon Luclin, and the Planes. The extent of EverQuest is such that very few have been to the 230 zones that make up the world. There are multiple coexisting EverQuest worlds running on different servers, each hosting between 1000 and 3000 players connected simultaneously. After selecting a server, the player can create various characters, choosing from multiple races and classes (Humans, Trolls, Gnomes, Dwarves, Vah Shir...). The basic objective of the game is to join a group with some companions and kill monsters to get experience points. In addition to this a player can also explore, join a player guild, master his skills to build items, challenge other players to a duel (only in special situations),...

While some parts of EverQuest can be played solo, without the help of other players, EQ is actually very focused on group play. A single player will not be able to overcome many of the battles. Much of the game can be carried out by a small group, around 6 people, but the riskiest (and also most rewarding) fights can require the cooperation of many players, sometimes even several guilds, coming together over 100 players.

Everquest was released with some technical difficulties on March 16, 1999, but it quickly became a success. By the end of 1999, it had surpassed its competitor, Ultima Online, in number of subscriptions. The number continued to climb steadily until mid-2001 when growth began to slow. In 2004 Sony announced that it had almost 450,000 subscribers.

In 2014, its 21st expansion, The Darkened Sea, was announced.

Controversy in Brazil

The state of Goiás, in central Brazil, has begun to recall 'Counter Strike' and 'Everquest', following a Federal Court ruling that banned them throughout Brazil for their violence. Both video games were considered "improper for consumption", by a judicial decision issued by a Federal Court, as reported by the Secretary of Protection of Consumer Rights of the state of Goiás in a statement.

The game 'Everquest,' according to the statement, "totally misrepresents" the player with & # 34; heavy psychological conflicts & # 34;, because he may be forced to lie, bribe and murder.

According to Brazilian justice, these games "can form aggressive individuals".
