Eutelsat (European Telecommunications Satellite Organization) is a French telecommunications company headquartered in Paris, France, founded in 1977. It currently operates 39 communications satellites under the names Hot Bird, Atlantic Bird, Eurobird, KA-SAT and Eutelsat.

These satellites are used to broadcast some 4,500 television channels and another 1,000 radio stations to more than 200 million homes. They also offer communication services for televisions, corporate networks, mobile telephony, Internet backbone connectivity and broadband applications with land, sea and in-flight access.

Russian propaganda distribution inside Russia

To this day, Eutelsat continues to collaborate with Russian TV platforms such as NTV-Plus and Tricolor. In France, the Denis Diderot Committee association has started a petition to put pressure on the European Union to stop Eutelsat from cooperating with Russian channels. In a press release, the association reports that it is "paradoxical and inexcusable" that European satellites are used to broadcast Russian channels that only broadcast the Kremlin's official state propaganda.

The director of the French Eutelsat, the Danish Eva Berneke, defended the strategy in a multimedia interview with Techmediet Radar: "It is clear that then we would have to say goodbye to some Russian customers, who would switch to some Russian satellite or something else." The media spokesman for the Danish Social Democratic party Kasper Sand Kjær comments on this decision in this way: “I think that everyone should decide for himself which side of history he wants to be on. I don't think anyone can survive these days by claiming to be neutral."
