The XL Eurovision Song Contest took place on May 13, 1995 at the Point Theater in Dublin, Ireland, with Mary Kennedy as presenter.
Secret Garden was the winning band with the new-age song "Nocturne". Norway's representative song, which was mostly instrumental and consisted of only 24 words, got 148 votes, just 29 points ahead of second-placed Spain, which got 119. This was, until the edition of 2022, the last time Spain was in the "Top-5". Sweden, which began leading the vote in a head-to-head with Norway, would end up occupying third place after being overtaken by Anabel Conde. Fourth place went to France and fifth to Denmark.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the festival, at the beginning of the broadcast a special video was broadcast with images of its entire history. After this video, the presenter Mary Kennedy made her entrance by going down a large staircase that was illuminated as she passed, and once she had gone down, the staircase ascended into the air with a pyrotechnic effect, revealing a stage in which the background was a continuation in vertical of the main platform. The set design was the work of Alan Farquharson, who had also designed the 1993 set.
Participating countries
A total of 23 countries took part in this edition. Compared to the previous edition, a total of 7 participants were relegated: Estonia, Slovakia, Finland, Lithuania, Netherlands, Romania and Switzerland. With this, 5 countries were able to return: Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia, Israel and Turkey. Italy and Luxembourg, which had been eliminated in 1994, declined to participate; Despite this, neither Switzerland nor Slovakia, ranked 19th and 20th in 1994, respectively, were allowed to participate.

Results
Although Norway started first, it soon lost its position to Sweden, with which it established a neck-and-neck for first position, although the Swedes were always one step ahead until the tenth vote in which Norway was again first., Sweden was deflating and losing positions very quickly in favor of Spain, which discreetly reached second position, but could not catch up with the Norwegians. Finally, Norway took its second victory.
