European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth
The European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth is a member of the European Commission. The portfolio is the result of the merger, in 2019, of the position of European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport with that of European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation.
The main objectives of EU research and innovation policies are open innovation, open science and openness to the world. Since 2019, the von der Leyen Commission seeks that research and innovation drive the ecological and digital transition of the EU.

Directorate General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD)
This general directorate of the Commission is in charge of EU policies on science, innovation and research, with the aim —according to the European Commission— of “creating growth and jobs and overcoming the main societal challenges.”
Horizon Europe
The EU seeks to adopt the research and innovation program Horizon Europe, which has a budget of around 95,500 million euros for the period 2021-2027. This includes €5.4bn from Next Generation EU to boost recovery and make the EU more resilient in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as an additional €4.5bn reinforcement.
General Directorate for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC)
This general directorate is in charge of EU policies on culture, sport, education, languages and youth. DG EAC supports Commission policies through a variety of projects and programs such as Creative Europe, Erasmus+, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (IEIT).

CORDIS
CORDIS (Community Research and Development Information Service, in Spanish Information service for the research and development community) is the main source of the European Commission on the results of projects funded by EU research and innovation framework programmes.
The main objectives of CORDIS are:
- Facilitate participation in community-based research activities;
- Improve the use of research results with special attention to the main sectors that enable the competitiveness of Europe;
- To promote the dissemination of knowledge in order to stimulate the performance of companies in innovation, especially through the publication of research results obtained in the successive framework programmes funded by the European Union, as well as the social acceptance of new technologies.
