ESET NOD32 Antivirus
ESET NOD32 is an antivirus program developed by the ESET company, of Slovak origin. The product is available for Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, Novell and Mac OS X, and has versions for workstations, mobile devices (Windows Mobile and Symbian), file servers, email servers, gateway servers and a console remote administration.
ESET also has an integrated product called ESET Smart Security that, in addition to all the features of ESET NOD32, includes a firewall and an antispam.
History
The first version of ESET NOD32 was published in the early 90s, under the name NOD-iCE. The first part of the name (NOD) is the acronym for Nemocnica na Okraji Disku, which in Spanish means "Hospital on the edge of the disk". This name is based on a popular Czechoslovak television show called "Nemocnica na Okraji Mesta" ("Hospital on the edge of the city"). Since the development of 32-bit operating systems, the antivirus changed its name, as it is currently known.
Since November 2007, version 3.0 of the product has been available, which significantly modified the operation and interface of the product compared to previous versions, simplifying it. An android mobi begins to be used to personify the product.
In March 2009, version 4 was published, which modifies the interface to one that is not so loaded with design, being simpler and easier to use. Focused on users with little experience.
Versions prior to version 4 of NOD32, as well as ESS, present certain incompatibilities in isolation with the Windows 7 OS but these are resolved through automatic updates of their modules and thus improve compatibility with version 4.2 released to early 2010. Later it launches version 6.0. Then it launches its version 7.0 and 8.0. It currently has version 10.0
Engine
ESET NOD32 uses a unified engine called ThreatSense® Technology that allows real-time detection of new threats or new viruses not yet cataloged, analyzing the execution code in search of the malicious code of any application of malware. Thanks to this and the detection based on signatures and advanced heuristics, ESET NOD32 Antivirus is capable of detecting malicious code, such as viruses, trojans, rootkits, worms and spyware, among other types of malware. This allows binary code analysis at runtime to determine suspicious malware behavior and stop the threat before it infects the user's PC.
Modules
In versions prior to 3.0, ESET NOD32 Antivirus had a modularized model, with components such as AMON (Antivirus Mon itor), DMON (Document Monitor), EMON (Email Monitor), IMON (< b>Internet Monitor), etc.
This was completely modified in version 3.0, and this nomenclature no longer exists for the product modules. For example, the program's resident monitor is now simply called Anti-virus and anti-spyware protection, replacing AMON and DMON.
This protection also includes email and Internet monitoring that was previously differentiated under the EMON and IMON modules, although from the configuration it is possible to activate or deactivate each of the parts separately.
The modules still exist within the program, but they cannot be accessed as they were in versions prior to 3.0.
Version 3.0 and later of the product has a friendlier interface compared to previous ones, and even several view modes (simple or advanced).
The product configuration remains granular, being able to choose from more than 100 different options to determine how the program should behave.
Since version 3.0 of ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET also released its unified security solution ESET Smart Security, which in addition to antivirus and antispyware, includes antispam and personal firewall.
Life cycle
Versions 2.7 of ESET NOD32 Antivirus were no longer supported as of February 2010. This means that this version currently does not have updates or support.
Eset versions prior to version 6 for home (Smart Security and antivirus) have ceased support. More information: http://support.eset.com/kb3678/?viewlocale=es_ES
