Biography
He is the son of Rodolfo Ramazzotti, originally from Viterbo (in Lazio, near Rome) and Raffaela Molina, a native of Vibo Valentia (a city in the Italian region of Calabria), he was born on October 28, 1963 in the hospital of San Giovanni, in Rome, and lived in the Cinecittà neighborhood in Rome, next to the big movie studios. In his childhood he participated as an extra with his friends in some movies, and even stated in an interview on Italian television that he appears in Federico Fellini's Amarcord (a film that won the Oscar for best foreign film in 1973).. As a teenager he was about to emigrate to Australia with his family; in fact, he was taking English classes at an academy near Termini station, but the application was rejected. His father was a painter, but in the past he tried to dedicate himself to singing, recording two songs: Lui è uno and Voglio andare sulla luna .
He tries to get into the conservatory, but is rejected for not knowing how to read music. He introduces himself with a song by Francesco De Gregori ( Pezzi di vetro ). He left the Margarita Bosco school, which still exists today, the same school where the footballers Alessandro Nesta and Francesco Totti would later study. He studied Accounting for two years, but dropped out at the end of the '70s and began to take his first steps in music.
1982-1986: Beginnings and musical career
In 1982 he released what was his first single Ad un amico, dedicated to his two friends Ivano and Marco, who died as teenagers (by car accident and lung disease, respectively). He had formed a group with them in his youth, they were called I Santana. The first two songs are Ad un amico (To a friend) and Sole che viene (Sun that comes).
In 1984 he appeared with his second single Terra promessa (Promised Land), composed by himself and helped by renowned Italian composers, Alberto Salerno in the lyrics and Renato Brioschi in the music. This second single includes the tracks Terra promessa and Bella storia (Beautiful story). This year is also the debut year at the Sanremo Song Festival, which he wins in the New Voices category. In 1985 he released his first album Cuori agitati (Rebel Souls), and the single Una storia importante (An important story) sells one million copies in France alone. That album is also released in Spain (its first Spanish-speaking market), but, curiously, it does not include the two singles recorded in that language Almas rebeldes / An important story >but only the second An important story, not even in its future reissues in CD format, thus making 'Rebel Souls' a highly sought after album by collectors around the world for its its uniqueness and rarity (it was only released, in Spanish and in Spain, as a single on vinyl) success of the album: Ora (Ahora) that gave Eros Ramazzotti fame at the beginning of his career, since that this song was only recorded in Italian speaking, half a million copies of that single were sold in Italy. It was with Una storia importante with which he appears for the second year at the Sanremo festival, but this time among the greats of Italian song, he comes sixth.
In 1986 he released his second album Nuovi eroi (Héroes de hoy), which included Adesso tu (Ahora tu), a song with which he did manage to win in San Remo and thus become the first to win the Festival twice in less than three years. The autobiographical song of the ...ragazzo di peripheria... thus becomes an anthem for an entire generation.
1987-1989: Confirmation
In 1987 he released his third album In certi momenti (In certain moments) includes the first duet of his entire career, La luce buona delle stelle sung with Patsy Kensit, vocalist of the group Eighth Wonder. On the same album is Ma che bello questo amore (Fantastic love) , one of the songs that cannot be missing in her concerts and others like Occhi di wait Eros.
1989-1999: Consecration in the 1990s
After a year without launching anything new on the market, came In ogni senso (In every way) (1990), which included songs such as Se bastasse una canzone (If they were enough a couple of songs) and Amarti è l'immenso per me (Loving you is total) sung as a duet with Antonella Bucci. The album also includes Dolce Barbara (A Violent Sunset) dedicated to the mother of Bárbara Polidori, a young fan from the town of Caserta, sick with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Eros, aware of her illness, turns to her, takes her to concerts, stays with her, and when she dies, her best tribute is done in the form of music.
In 1993 Eros surprised with Tutte storie (All stories) and the chords of the first single Cose della vita (Things of life), the most rock that the singer has done. Said single had another surprise, the video was directed by Spike Lee, and it was the first time that the director worked with a European. On the same album is Silver e Missie (Silver and Missie), a song that deals with the story of two dolphins, who were part of the project, Into the blue, they tried to save and free them, and the entire transalpine country was mobilized. Also noteworthy was the song Favola (Fable) , inspired by the story Píktor's Transformations , by Hermann Hesse. Esodi (Exodus) which talks about the exiles of the former Yugoslavia, Un'altra te (Another like you) ...
On May 21, 1996, Dove c'è música (Where there is music) came out, the album that has sold the most (more than seven million worldwide). This album is important because it is the first that Eros himself produces with the recently created Radiorama, a music agency run by his brother Marco de él, and because it is the first that the artist releases without the collaboration of his usual producer, Piero Cassano. Più bella cosa (The most beautiful thing), also known in Spain as "Thank you for existing" it was the most radioed single in 1996. L'Aurora (La Aurora) is dedicated to his daughter Aurora Sophie. Lettera al futuro (Letter to the Future) is inspired by The Masque of the Red Death, a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. Me without you, which is the only song that is present in Spanish on both editions of the two albums (version in Spanish and Italian). Eros composed the music and the lyrics for the album in Spanish were adapted by Nacho Mañó, one of the members of the group Presuntos Implicados, José Mañó and Javier Bori. With this album, what will be the future Eros working group is also gestated, since he meets his current co-author of the Eros melodies, Professor Claudio Guidetti.
2000-2010: 9 and Wings and Roots
After the break, in the year 2000, Eros returned to the scene with Stilelibero (Estilolibre) produced halfway between Eros and his friend-composer-assistant Claudio Guidetti. by Rick Nowell, Trevor Horn, and Celso Valli (his longtime arranger). In it he returns with another duet Più che puoi, this time with Cher and other songs like Fuoco nel fuoco (Fire in the fire), first simple and Per me per sempere (For me it will be forever).
On June 3, 2003, 9 saw the light of day, the most autobiographical album the singer has made, on the album are Un'emozione per sempre (An emotion forever), the first single from the album and originally written for his friend Alex Baroni, but he was never able to sing, since months before he died after a motorcycle accident in Rome, Piccola pietra (Small Stone) which is based on the book entitled The Motionless Dance, by the Peruvian writer Manuel Scorza. Ti vorrei rivivere (Revive you again) which is dedicated to Donatella, the girl who appears on the cover of In certi momenti ( At certain times) with him and that it was his first great love. The album, which broke all records for permanence on the Italian sales charts, once again embarked on a new world tour, which passed through Rome on July 7, 2004, before 60,000 spectators at the Olympic Stadium. Months later the concert was released on DVD called Eros Roma Live.
In October 2005, the album Calma apparente (Apparent calm ), which contains a duet with Anastacia, appears in October and on her birthday, as other times. whose song is called I belong to you/Il ritmo della passione (I belong to you/The rhythm of passion), the return is made with La nostra vita (Our life) breaking the record for broadcasts of a song on Italian stations.
Almost simultaneously, Eros, lo giuro, the first authoritative book on the life of Eros Ramazzotti, came out in Italy, the result of conversations with the journalist and writer Luca Bianchini. It becomes the best-selling book in Italy.
On Tuesday, November 13, 2007, a double anthology was released, whose name is e² (e squared), and which commemorates the 25-year career of Eros. The first single from this album is a duet with Ricky Martin called Non siamo soli (We are not alone).
In addition, this Greatest Hits contains a duet with Amaia Montero, a collaboration with Carlos Santana, another with the mythical Steve Vai, with the vocal group Take 6 and many other surprises, which raises the expectations of this one very high. Parallel to this, Eros has collaborated with the Sardinian group Tazenda singing Domo Mia and was recently invited to sing a duet with the Guatemalan singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona on his new album Quién dijo ayer, the theme To you.
On June 2, 2009, his new album was released, called Alas y raíces and whose first single is titled Dímelo a mí. In September his second single entitled Contra el viento began to be heard on the radio.
The world tour of Ali e Radici (Wings and Roots) has given rise to 21.00: Eros, a name that comes from the time the concerts began during the tour. 21.00: Eros has been released on double CD, DVD, DVD+2CD and triple vinyl. The first single was the tremendous start of the show Appunti e note (Notes and notes). The album in concert shows the most rocky side of the singer, full of guitars.
2010-2018: We are, Perfect and "There is life".
After three years without releasing a new album, in November 2012 Ramazzotti released a new album, Somos, (Noi in its Italian version. The album consists of 14 songs, 5 of them with collaborations. I am You, with actor Andy García; Hasta el écstasis with Nicole Scherzinger; Like this with Il Volo; One more with Hooverphonic; and Testa o Cuore with Club Dogo. The same year the compilation Eros Best Love Songs or in Spanish Eros Romántico was published, with its 18 most romantic songs in the singer's history. In 2014 another compilation appeared, Eros 30 to commemorate the artist's 30 years on stage. The album with the title of "Perfecto" appears in 2015, being a great work by the Italian singer-songwriter. His last album to date is Hay Vida, he embeds himself in a relaxed and successful way in the youthful music of these times, but preserving the grace and demonstrating the capacity and open mind of Eros. On this album he performs duets with Luis Fonsi, Helene Fischer and Alessia Cara.
2022: Infinite Battito
