Erianthus

Contenido Erianthus is a genus of herbaceous plants in the Poaceae family. It is native to tropical America, southeastern Europe to eastern Asia, the Indomalaya region, Polynesia, Sahara, Madagascar.
Some authors include it in the genus Saccharum.
Etymology
The name of the genus derives from the Greek erion (wool) and anthos (flower), alluding to its woolly glumes.
Cytology
The basic chromosome number of the genus is x = 5 and 10, with somatic chromosome numbers of 2n = 10, 15, 20, 30 and 60, since there are diploid species and a polyploid series. Relatively "small" chromosomes.
