El Mercurio On-Line, better known by its acronym EMOL, is the parent internet portal of the Chilean company El Mercurio S.A.P.. Under its eaves are all the group's media websites.

History

It was born in the mid-1990s as an economic and current information service for companies - now called ValorFuturo. Starting in 1999, and in response to competition from the Terra and La Tercera websites, it was transformed into an information portal fed by the contents of the Internet editions of El Mercurio, Las Últimas Noticias and La Segunda, as well as breaking news. In 2002 it was officially integrated into the structure of the newspaper El Mercurio, since previously the site was developed separately from the printed edition.

EMOL is one of the most visited news portals in Chile.
