El Sabinar (Murcia)
El Sabinar is a district of the municipality of Moratalla, in the Region of Murcia. The Sabinar is a communications hub between the districts of Campo de San Juan (by Archivel or Moratalla), Zaén and Benizar, or the municipality of Nerpio (already in Albacete). It is a unique place in the region of Murcia: a cold depression with extensive grassy juniper forests in which the southernmost populations of the sessile juniper (Juniperus thurifera) are found in Spain. These juniper forests give their name to the location. The patron saint festivities of El Sabinar are celebrated around August 24 in honor of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, and are an unpostponable event not only for the residents of El Sabinar, but for all those who visit these highlands in the northwest of Murcia attracted not only for the festivities, but also for the magnificent natural environment of these areas, their cultural wealth, gastronomy and the hospitality of their people. Hospitality that is enhanced thanks to a good hotel and restaurant offering, along with a wide variety of typical and artisanal products of excellent quality.
Patron Saint Festivities
Dedicated to San Bartolomé and Nuestra Señora de la Rogativa, their traditional running of the bulls stands out mainly. With the arrival and reception of the Virgen de la Rogativa to the parish, the starting signal for the patron saint festivities of El Sabinar is given. Of special relevance is the participation of the neighbors through the town's clubs, these being in charge of organizing the festivals year after year. Highlights include the festival nights with orchestras and brass bands, the traditional running of the bulls, children's workshops, sporting events, group meetings, distribution of paella and the popular procession through the streets of the town.
