Eisenach is a city in the German state of Thuringia.

History

Wartburg Castle, reference site about Luther. It is currently a World Heritage Site.

In the 16th century, Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German here.

On March 31, 1685, one of the most important musicians of the West, Johann Sebastian Bach, was born in Eisenach.

In 1869, the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) was founded in Eisenach.

Economy

After the German reunification of 1990, the region that hosts the city has experienced uneven economic progress and the situation has improved overall. However, Eisenach boasts one of the lowest levels of wealth in the country despite constant subsidies from the federal government and the European Union (EU).
