History

Ecuavisa began transmitting its signal on March 1, 1967 as Channel 2 where it was founded by the initiative of Xavier Alvarado Roca, whose economic group has ties with ENSA (Editors Nacionales S.A., which publishes, among other magazines such as "Glance", "Home", "Stadium", etc.); SENEFELDER (graphics industry) and several other businesses. The television station's studios were located in Guayaquil, at the top of Cerro del Carmen, which was the highest place in the city at that time, making it the best place for broadcasting television signals. However, it began broadcasting on March 1 of that same year.

Later, on June 21, 1970, Televisora Nacional Canal 8 was founded in Quito along with journalist Jorge Mantilla Ortega, who broadcast Ecuavisa programs for the Ecuadorian capital and other cities in the Sierra region. The programming was broadcast from Quito throughout the country under the motto "Chain of national unity". Diario El Comercio maintained this channel as part of its organization. In 1981, the television network changed its name to Ecuavisa. In 1989, Grupo El Comercio decided to sell the television station.

On May 9, 2013, Ecuavisa launched its own signal in high definition.
