Dysuria is difficult, painful, and incomplete expulsion of urine.

Causes

There are numerous causes that can cause it:

  • Endometriosis (feminine)

  • Uretral stenosis
  • bladder cancer
  • Prostate cancer (male)
  • Benign prostate hyperplasia (male)
  • Prostatitis (male)
  • Reactive arthritis
  • Diverticulitis

  • urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Cistitis
  • Pielonefritis
  • Uretritis
  • Hypotension
  • Hemorrhagic cystitis

Clinical picture

It is the most bothersome symptom of voiding syndrome, described by the patient as "stinging,"burning" or "pain" when urinating Some describe it at the beginning of urination and others at the end (terminal dysuria). Dysuria is a typical symptom of lower urinary tract infection (cystitis and urethritis) and is sometimes accompanied by chills and fever. In men it can also be produced by benign prostatic hypertrophy or prostate cancer.

Treatment

It depends on the cause of the dysuria. If it is a urinary infection, antibiotics are usually used.
