Dris Yetú (Arabic: إدريس جطو, Idrīs Ŷiṭṭū), better known by the French transliteration Driss Jettou (born May 24, 1945) was Prime Minister of Morocco from October 9, 2002 to September 19, 2007, when he was replaced by Abbas el Fassi.

Biography

He studied Physical Sciences and Chemistry in Rabat, as well as Conditioning and Business Management at Cordwaires University in London. In the private company she has held several managerial positions, as well as has chaired the Moroccan Association of Exporters.

In the public sphere, he was Minister of Commerce and Industry from 1993 to 1998. In 2001 he was appointed Minister of the Interior and, in that capacity, he sent a group of policemen to occupy the Spanish islet of Perejil in July 2002, an initiative which caused a serious crisis with Spain. Later, he prepared the celebration of the general elections of 2002. After them he was appointed prime minister, a position he held until 2007.

On October 15, 2010, the Government headed by Jose Luis Rodríguez Zapatero awarded him the Grand Cross of the Order of Carlos III, which is awarded to those people who have stood out especially for their good deeds for the benefit of Spain and the crown. The awarding of the prize raised great controversy, as the political opposition in Spain recalled the Perejil incident.
