Dragon Quest is a video game saga belonging to the RPG genre and directed by Yuji Horii. In North America the title of the saga was Dragon Warrior until the release in 2005 of Dragon Quest VIII. The first video games were produced by the Enix company, until in 2003 it merged with Squaresoft, giving rise to Square Enix, which has produced them ever since.

Creators

The main creators of the series are three:

  • Yuji Horii: He joined Enix after winning a contest. Since then he has created several video games, one of the most important being the series Dragon Quest; in which he says he wanted to make a kind of sleeve where he could choose the actions that the protagonist would perform.
  • Akira Toriyama: Famous manga drawer who worked in the same magazine as Horii. He asked him to design the monsters and characters of the video game, a task he has done since.
  • Koichi Sugiyama: He is the composer of each of the themes Dragon Quest. In addition to working in video games he has also participated in movies like Godzilla.

Culture and Promotional Items.

  • Currently, Dragon Quest is part of Japanese culture, so much so that words that are already almost common among young people have come to include in the Japanese dictionary. For example, the name of the spell that is used in the games to recover health is used in the common language to say “to relieve” or “to cure”. The sale of figures, stuffed, table games, clothes, collection cards and many other items continue to give important revenue to the company Square Enix. Among the most novel articles Dragon Quest that have come out is a kit that includes a small sword and a console that connects to television. As the wireless sword moves, the monsters that appear on screen are hit by the console.
  • There are a multitude of anecdotes related to Dragon Quest in Japan. The day of the announced departure Dragon Quest IIIcolleges and some companies reported an impressive amount of lack of assistance, because fans made long lines in the video games stores. The reason for this uncommon success is because Dragon Quest supposed the start of the Japanese role play.
  • For the Nippon Announcement Dragon Quest VI they used actors who used Spanish dialogues whose incongruity became famous in popular culture, even reference is made to one of them in the Spanish dialogue Dragon Quest IX.
  • In Tokyo, there is a theme bar Dragon Quest Luida's Bar.
  • Dragon Quest Island, an attraction to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the saga, will be present at Japan's Nijigen no Mori amusement park.
