Death
On the morning of February 12, 2005, Stang got up early to walk to a community meeting to discuss rights in the Amazon.
Ciero, a farmer that Stang invited to the meeting, was going to be late. Ciero was a couple of minutes behind Stang, but he was able to see her and hide from the two armed men following her. She advanced and was blocked by the two men, Clodoaldo Carlos Batista and Raifran das Naves Sales. They asked her if she had any weapons, and she said that her only weapon would be her Bible. She then read a passage from the beatitudes: "Blessed are the poor in spirit...". She followed a couple of steps but was suddenly stopped when Ciero called her 'Sister', as Raifran was aiming at her. As Clodoaldo gave the go-ahead to shoot Stang, Raifran fired a shot into his abdomen. She fell face down to the ground. Raifran fired another shot in her back, and then fired the remaining four bullets in her head. The missionary's body is buried in a place in Anapu, where she received and still receives the tributes of so many who recognize her heroic virtues of the Christian matron.
