Doogie Howser, M.D.
Doogie Howser, M.D. (Doogie Howser in Latin America, El Doctorcito in Venezuela, Pequeño Doctor in Uruguay, An early doctor in Spain) is an American television series, created by Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley and starring Neil Patrick Harris. It is about the life of Douglas "Doogie" Howser, a teenage prodigy who practices his residency as a doctor in a hospital, and also has to face the problems typical of his age with his friend, "Vinnie" (Max Casella).). The show was filmed in Los Angeles and its 97 episodes aired over four years (September 19, 1989 to March 24, 1993) on the ABC network. The music for the series is contributed by Mike Post. The concept of the program was inspired by the true story of Dr. Howard A. Zucker, who became a doctor at the age of twenty-two, at George Washington University School of Medicine. However, in the series it is assumed that he has already been a doctor since he was fourteen.
Among the clichés of the program were that Doogie at the end of each episode wrote his reflections on what happened in his diary on a computer, and that his best friend, Vinnie, played by Casella, climbed through Doogie's window to meet with he.
The program was successful in its time due to the charisma of the young man who was presented as a normal teenager, escaping the nerd stereotype. The writers' decision to grow Doogie marked the end of the series.
