Dogali
The Dogali was an Italian battlecruiser, the first to have triple expansion engines. In 1908 she was sold to the Uruguayan Navy and renamed Montevideo.
History
She began construction for the Greek Navy as Salamis, but ended up being the Italian battlecruiser Dogali, although she was originally going to be called Angelo Emo. When construction was completed she was rigged with auric sails, but these were stopped in use in 1890. The 152 mm guns were located in the bow, covered with a shell-shaped casemate, and in the stern. The other two, on the port and starboard bows. She was a copy of the British cruiser Elswick, although she was of lighter construction.
In 1908 it was sold to Uruguay; she was completely withdrawn from full service in 1924, although she was retained until scrapping her in 1930. The Dogali combined high speed, good protection and powerful armament.
