The Dnipropetrovsk Oblast (Ukrainian: Дн_пропетровська область, tr: Dnipropetrovs'ka oblast' or Дн_пропетровщина, tr: Dnipropetróvschyna) is a province located in south-eastern Ukraine. Its capital is Dnipro, other major cities are Krivoy Rog, Kamianske and Nikopol.

Demographics

Its population in 2014 registers 3,289,481 inhabitants, according to the 2001 People's Census of Ukraine, 79.3% of the population consider themselves to be of Ukrainian ethnicity and 17.6% of Russian ethnicity. For 67% of the population the mother tongue is Ukrainian and for 32% Russian. Although Ukrainian has an official status, in everyday life in the cities Russian predominates.

Economic

The region is very important economically. Here are the main centers of the Ukrainian steel industry: Krivoy Rog, Kamianske and Nikopol. There are also important machinery and chemical industry factories.
