DJ Spooky
DJ Spooky, a musician born in 1970 in Washington D.C., is a representative of illbient and trip hop, he is also a turntablist and producer.
Paul Miller, aka DJ Spooky started his career interested in punk and go-go music, he studied at Bowdoin College, where he graduated in Philosophy and French Literature. He began writing science fiction and formed the collective called Soundlab with a diverse group of artists. In the mid-'90s, Spooky recorded single albums and extended singles (EPs); His debut album or LP from him was "Songs of a Dead Dreamer", widely recognized as the beginning of a genre called "illbient". Riddim Warfare (see 1998 in music) was an underground hit that included collaborations with Dr. Octagon and other cult indie rock figures. He worked on various and varied collaborations with artists for the production of compact discs (CDs) and mixes. In the year 2002 he presented "Modern Mantra". And the same year also saw the release of "Optometry," an acclaimed collaboration with avant-jazz musicians such as Matthew Shipp, William Parker, Guillermo E. Brown, and Joe McPhee. This album also features a track with Billy Martin of "Medeski, Martin & Wood."
