Festivities

The cajoneros are an important part of Afro-Peruvian culture.

El Carmen is the only district where the Afro-Peruvian ethnic group predominates in the province of Chincha and in all of Peru, with various cultural manifestations. It is the center of folklore in the province, a lively, bustling town settled in a large Chinchano valley. It is the stronghold of the black genre, since the first settlers were descendants of slaves from Angola and Mandingos. Its patron saint is the Virgin of El Carmen. In this town, the nights of the rock that are held for important parties stand out.
