The discus throw is an athletics test, where the objective is to throw a heavy object with a circular section. The disc is thrown from a circle 2.50 m in diameter and must land within a 34° 92' angle sector. It is a circle of wood surrounded by metal; for men it has a diameter of 22 cm and a weight of 2 kg, while for women it measures 18 cm and weighs 1 kg. It must be thrown with one hand. The launch area is not the same as the shot put, 2.50 m for the discus, 2.15 m for the shot and hammer.
The event has been part of the athletics program at the Olympic Games since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983.
The disk
Disc launch in Athens 1896 (Robert Garrett, USA). UU, gold medal.
Old and modern implementation.
Some old discs are preserved and it seems that there was no standard weight or measurement, since the discs that are preserved are very varied in terms of their size and weight, ranging between 1.3 and 4 kg, although there is one of 0.7 kg that may have been a reason disc unrelated to the competition. It is made of wood and metal edges.
Incorporation of discus throwing into the program has
was olympically canceled in Athens 1896. Women compete for the first time at the Olympic level in 1782 in Amsterdam.
Launch Zone
The throwing circle has a diameter of 2.5 m. This area must be demarcated by lines 5 cm wide, preferably white. There must also be an imaginary line that extends horizontally 75 cm outside the circle on each side, this line divides the circle into two parts, serving as a reference for the entry and exit of the athlete in the shape of a building.
It is important that the surface of the throwing circle is made of a non-slip material.
The falling sector has an angle of 34.92º.
A cage is used that has a minimum height of 8 m. It has fixed panels that are 2.80 m wide and rotating panels that are 10 m high. The cage shall be designed, manufactured and maintained in such a way that the mesh is capable of stopping a 7,260 kg hammer head moving at a speed of up to 32 m per second.
Your conditioning should be such that there is no danger of it rebounding towards the athlete or going over the top of the cage.
Throwing Technique
It is believed that the most common way to throw the disc was by lifting the disc from the front. Next, throw the throwing arm holding the disc back and accompanying it with the rest of the body. Then the body is advanced, raising and releasing the arm to launch. This field can also be used for other sports activities.
Basic and technical disc release standards.
Rules
The athlete must start their performance from a static position. He can hold the disc as a reference to take flight. He shall leave the circle in the back half once the puck has hit the ground. For the throw to be valid, the disc must fall within the interior part of the demarcation lines of the sector of fall. The throw is measured from the nearest mark made by the disc to the inside edge of the circumference of the circle. The athlete may not introduce anything into the circle. The athlete has one minute to make each attempt, normally each athlete makes three attempts and the eight athletes with the best valid record make another three attempts in reverse order of their best possible record.
Reasons for null launch:
- Touch with any part of the body the top of the metallic edge of the circle or outside of it.
- Get out the front of the circle.
- Get out of the circle before the artifact falls.
- Throw the artifact out of the sector.
- Delay in the launch execution.
Launch Disc Features
In the absolute category, the weight of the discus is 2 kg for men and 1 kg for women. It has a diameter of 219 - 221 mm and a thickness of 44-46 mm in the male category; in the female it has a diameter of 180 - 182 mm and a width of 37 - 39 mm. However, the size and weight of the disc decrease in the lower categories of men: 1.5 kg for minors (up to 17 years old) 1.75 kg for juveniles (18 to 20 years old). The discus throw is a test of athletics, where the objective is to throw a heavy object with a circular section called a disc as far as possible. The discus is thrown from a circle 2.50 m in diameter and must land within a 35° 32' angle sector. It is a circle of wood surrounded by metal; for men it has a diameter of 22 cm and a weight of 2 kg, while for women it measures 18 cm and weighs 1 kg. It must be thrown with one hand.
The discus is a plate with a metal edge and center, the rest is wood, which is thrown from a circle that has a diameter of 2.5 meters.
In men's competition, the discus measures between 219 and 221 mm in diameter, between 44 and 46 mm in width and weighs 2 kilograms.
In the female branch the disc measures between 180 and 182 mm in diameter, 37 to 39 mm wide and weighs 1 kilograms.
