Diplachne

Diplachne is a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Poaceae family. It is native to tropical and temperate regions of Asia.

Some authors consider it a synonym of the genus Leptochloa.

Taxonomy

The genus was described by P.Beauv. and published in Essai d'une Nouvelle Agrostographie 80, pl. 16, f. 9. 1812. The type species is: Diplachne fascicularis (Lam.) P. Beauv.

Etymology

The generic name derives from the Greek diploos (double) and achne (glime), referring to the bilobed lemma.

Cytology

The basic chromosome number of the genus is x = 10, with somatic chromosome numbers of 2n = 40 and 60, since there are diploid species and a polyploid series.
