Dinotrichales
Dinotrichales are unicellular organisms of the superclass Dinoflagellata, class Dinophyceae, subclass Dinophycidae. They are characterized by having two heterocontous flagella in the sulcus and cingulum. They present filamentous forms.
Dinotrichales is a group that would have lost the typical chloroplasts of Dinophyceae, which possess peridinine. Thus, while the Crypthecodiniaceae family does not have chloroplasts and are heterotrophs, the Dinotrichaceae family have chloroplasts with fucoxanthin, which come from an endosymbiont Bacillariophycidae diatom that, in addition to the plast, preserves its eukaryotic nucleus and mitochondria. In Galeidinium the endosymbiont diatom would be Cylindrotheca, while in Durinskia and Kryptoperidinium it would be Phaeodactylum.
