Diego Martín Gabriel (Madrid, September 21, 1974) is a Spanish film, theater and television actor.
Biography
Diego Martín was born on September 21, 1974 in Madrid, although he feels he was from Valladolid. He and his brother Jacobo Martín directed their future towards the world of acting, although Diego enrolled in Law, which he did not finish. For this he set out to study: in 1993 he studied interpretation and verse with M. A. Conejero. The following year he became a student of Armando Vidal. After completing this basic training, he enrolled in the Juan Carlos Corazza school. To complement these activities, he followed voice courses with Carolina Colom (1996) and Lidia García (1997), at the end of which he enrolled in a movement and expression course with Antonio del Olmo, and in one of stage direction, offered by RESAD. in 1998.
During those years of study, Diego Martín gained his first professional experiences with a small role in the film Resultado final —the last film directed by Juan Antonio Bardem—, and in some plays such as The miser (1995), Two duardos , This is love , Whoever tasted it knows it and Yepeto .
In 1999, she got her first fixed role on television in Periodistas. After his participation, Luis San Narciso signed him for Policías, en el corazón de la calle, in which the actor cast Jaime, a severe and rigid police officer in his sentimental relationships, but also impulsive in his time to avenge a friend (Rafael: Daniel Guzmán) who became a paraplegic in a shooting.
That year, Martín combined filming on the television set with two plays: Camino de Wolokamsk —with which he ended a long collaboration with theater director Juan Antonio Quintana— and Time and the Conways, the latter under the direction of her former teacher Juan Carlos Corazza.
In 2002 he returned to the stage with Openheart: el triángulo, directed by Andrés Lima, and in which he had co-stars Pilar Castro, Diego París and Secun de la Rosa. In this way, Martín entered the orbit of the Animalario theater group. In it, Martín put himself in the shoes of Jean Jack, a singer invited by a married couple to spend the end of the millennium with him with the intention of seducing him —in the case of the woman— and using him as a guinea pig —in the case of the man—, without knowing these two that the young man was capable of anything to obtain money with which to finance his career. The piece was intended to be a reflection on how individuals use each other to achieve their ends in a society that is less and less supportive. With his participation in the play, Martín managed to associate his name with a type of critical theater, and on the other hand strengthen his relations in the world of cinema.
Indeed, as a result of his contacts with Animalario, Martín achieved his first important film appearance in Football Days, in which he played a lonely man who could not kiss a woman without suffering a squint
In 2003, the filming of Police concluded. Diego then joined the cast of a series, A new life. In it, the actor put himself in the shoes of Manu, a sensitive, shy and hard-working doctor. The series was prematurely withdrawn from broadcast, leaving the actor without important work in that medium.
An episodic intervention in 7 lives —where he played a gay who was studying the possibility of closing a contract between a brand of beer and a bar whose owner had become got caught—and Paradiso resolved the crisis. Shortly after, Martín played a homosexual in a series on regional television, De moda , in which his character advised his best friend (David: Toni Cantó) about the sentimental relationships of he.
Martín combined the filming of the latter with that of There is no one who lives here. The casting director of that one, Elena Arnao, selected him for the role of Carlos, an episodic character who suffered from strong affective deficiencies and who in the third season became the main character. The role of Carlos was that of an eccentric thirty-something posh, still in love with his ex (Lucía: María Adánez), full of insecurities due to the lack of love in his life, and who ended up admitted to a psychiatric hospital. to solve your problems.
To avoid being pigeonholed, without abandoning television activity, she returned to the stage with Ronda para dos mujeres y mujeres, an analysis of gender equality. After the tour, she joined the cast of Los Borgia (2005). In it she played Perotti, the guardian of Lucrezia Borgia, whom she impregnates; fact that precipitates his assassination at the hands of César Borgia. After his time in Antonio Hernández's film, he joined the shooting of Días de cine , where he repeated under the orders of David Serrano. At the end of it, Martín abandoned There is no one living here in favor of his first leading role in cinema in Mataharis , where he put himself under the command of Icíar Bollain.
At the end of filming, the actor landed his first leading role in Anyone has a good day, Arturo, a penniless thirty-year-old who manages to enter the elderly social system to live paying a minimum rent. The film would also mean the opportunity to return to his homeland. He was accompanied by Ana Otero and Roberto Álamo.
In October he travels to Mexico to star in Manu Carballo's feature film El último justo, in which he plays Teo, a journalist who finds himself involved in a series of murders whose victims are people who were born In the same day.
On September 4, 2007, he premiered the new series for Telecinco, Hermanos y detectives, a police comedy in which he stars alongside Rodrigo Noya.
