Dendrochloa distans

Dendrochloa is a monotypic genus of bamboo in the Poaceae family. Its only species, Dendrochloa distans C.E.Parkinson, is originally from Burma.

Some authors consider it a synonym of the genus Schizostachyum.

Description

It is an evergreen herbaceous plant with leafy, cane-shaped stems that reach a size of 1500-2000 cm tall; woody and persistent and 11 cm in diameter, not scandent; branched at the top. Pluri tussock. The leaves are linear-lanceolate, broad (long pointed), 50-90 mm wide. Ligule erect and visible, not truncated (obtuse), 3-7 mm long. The paniculate inflorescence about 75 cm long, with whorls of branches.

Taxonomy

Dendrochloa distans was described by C.E.Parkinson and published in Indian Forester 59: 707. 1933.
