The decay energy is the difference in energy between the initial and final particles of a decay process. The relationship between mass and energy is applied:

Q = (mass of initial particles - mass of final particles) · c2

If the energy, Q, is positive, the reaction is exothermic or exoergic; if it is negative, the reaction is endoergic or endothermic.
