The Data Circuit-terminating Equipment (DCE), in English: Data Circuit-terminating Equipment (DCE), also known as Data Communication Equipment Data (ECD), is that device that participates in the communication between two devices, but that is not the final receiver or original issuer of the data that is part of that communication.

It is the component of the data circuit that transforms or adapts the signals to be able to use the communication channel.
