David Torpedo 2 S.

David was a Spanish automobile brand of the 20th century.

David's history dates back to 1913 and is linked to "cyclecars" and those non-motorized contraptions called "downs cars". This first stage lasted until approximately 1922.

At the end of the civil war and due to the fuel shortage in Spain in the 1940s, José María Moré Comas manufactured a short series of electric vehicles with Citroën chassis (approximately 10) and "haiga& type bodywork #3. 4; which, as the advertising of the time said, "is the vehicle worthy of the wedding ceremony."

Later, in the 1950s, he designed a microcar with three wheels, a kind of motorcycle with a body or, as he said, "it is not a car with one less wheel, but a motorcycle with one more wheel&# 3. 4;. This buggy was produced in a touring version and a five-wheeled trivan with a global production of about 60 examples between 1951 and 1957.

The technical characteristics of this vehicle were the following:

  • Motor: previous monocylindrical of own manufacture (type M.2 t.1) of two times of 76x76 mm (345 cc), refrigerated by air turbine driven by the shaft of the stork, 10 CV to 4000 rpm. Compression 5.7:1. Maximum pair 2 m/kg. Carburetor Solex. Two-liter oil tank. Electrical installation: 6 V with 100 W dynamo, 45 Amp battery and F-70 grade plugs.
  • Change of gears and brakes: six relationships (three marches with multiplier) further back, exchange relationships: 1.a 1:26, 2.a 1:1,47, 3.a 1:1,04. Backward –1: 4,2. Clutch: multiple discs bathed in oil. Mechanical brakes on the three wheels. 240 cm2 of total braking surface.
  • Chasis: longitudinal central bar on which the rear train is supported. The front train consists of steering-suspension set, rotating the engine along with the wheel, front suspension by crossbows and spiral and rear spring by torsion foils, direction by semicoron and pylon with 3,40 m diameter turning. Tyres: 4.00 x 8, pressure 1.5 front and 1.75 rear.
  • Measures and weight: rear width: 1.20 m, axis distance; 1.70 m, total length: 2.80 m, total width; 1.40 m total height: 1.40 m (capotted), soil height: 0.20 m, weight: 280 kg (the first models weighed 215 kg).
  • Carrocería: monococ type of clumsy style open with or without capota. There was a closed model and an open turf. Seats: 2 + 2, petrol tank: 18 l.
  • Benefits: maximum speed 68 km/h (normal model) and 58 tricamionette, consumption 5 liters/100 km.
