Danthonia is a genus of herbaceous plants in the Poaceae family. It is native to the northern hemisphere.

Etymology

The generic name was given in honor of E.Danthoine, a French botanist.

Cytology

The basic chromosome number of the genus is x = 6 or 9 (?), with somatic chromosome numbers of 2n = 18, 36 and 48, since there are diploid species and a polyploid series. Relatively small chromosomes. The nucleoli disappear before metaphase.
