Daisuke Matsuzaka (松坂 大輔 Matsuzaka, Daisuke born September 13, 1980) is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher with the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball in the United States. He previously played for the Seibu Lions in Japan's Pacific League. He was selected the MVP of the inaugural and second World Baseball Classic, and is an Olympic bronze medalist.

He was a great pitcher when he was a student at Yokohama High School. When he graduated, he joined the Seibú Lions. In his first season he became the rookie of the year, as well as the star of his team.

Currently signed by the Boston Red Sox, he is playing in the big leagues. He wears the number 18. On April 11, 2007, he debuted at Fenway Park against the Seattle Mariners, losing the game and leaving his record 1-1.

On May 14, 2007, Matsuzaka wins his first MLB complete game, facing Detroit; the final score was Detroit 1 Boston 7, in a game in which the Japanese allowed only 6 hits.

On October 21, he pitched six innings in Game 7 of the American League playoffs, and the Red Sox won. He had 8 strikeouts and just 2 runs.
