° There was no participation from the 1931-1932 season until the club resumed activity in 1939-1940, which is why the total seasons do not coincide with the years of the club since its foundation.

Graphic evolution in league

° No participation was made from the 1932-1933 season until the club was refounded in 1939-1940 (due to a cessation of sports activity, but not of the entity), for this reason the total seasons do not they coincide with the years of the club since its foundation.

° From the 1923-1924 season to the 1927-1928 season, they did not participate in league competitions (foundation of the league in 1929), what they played was a tournament valid for the Copa del Rey classification.

° The Third Division seasons prior to 1977 are counted in the third category, that year with the creation of Second B it became the fourth category and in 2021 with the creation of the RFEF divisions it became the fifth category.

Other sports sections

Basketball

La Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa has had a basketball section since June 2022 when basketball was unified in the city of León after ten years of coexistence between Basket León and Baloncesto Reino de León, after the disappearance of Basketball Leon in 2012.

La Cultural unifies the two senior teams of the existing clubs in its first team, assumes the youth ranks of Colegio Leonés and signs a collaboration agreement with the Reino de León Basketball youth ranks, in what is presumed to be a clear commitment to return elite basketball to the city of León.

In their first season, 2022/2023, they won the Castilla y León EBA Cup against Grupo Inmapa Filipenses de Palencia.

Cultural Presidents

Since its foundation, and until the Sports Law forced most clubs to become Sports Public Limited Companies, Cultural and Sports Leonesa was led by a president elected by the members. After the transformation into SAD, the president of the Council is also president of the Cultural and Sports Leonesa. The last president elected by the partners was Juan Díez Guisasola.

Several presidents have led the club on two different occasions. The most famous is Antonio Amilivia, who led the team from the Third Division to the First Division in the 1950s XX. Luis Fernández Rabanal gave the club economic viability in the sixties and eighties of the XX century. The first foreign president is Tariq Abdulaziz Al Naama. The current president is Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi.

Uniform

  • First equipment: White t-shirt, white pants and white stockings.
  • Second equipment: Red t-shirt, red pants and half magenta.
  • Third equipment: Black t-shirt, black pants and black stockings.
  • Sponsor: Aspire Academy.
  • Signature: Kappa.

Originally, the shirt was gray and the pants and socks were black. In 1925, white pants and shirt were established and black socks were maintained until 1950. From that moment on, the kit is completely white. In 2013/2014 the shirts carried a logo in commemoration of the club's 90th anniversary.

In July 2014, a limited edition tuxedo shirt was presented for a charity match. It had worldwide repercussions and, thanks to the collaboration of Cultural and Sports Leonesa and Admerz, it became a bestseller. It reached cities all over the world and made the Cultural gain a notoriety never seen before in the club. Its great success was due to the great virality it achieved on social networks: a hashtag #esmoquinCultu was created and the day of the presentation, Cultural and Sports Leonesa became a national trendic topic on Twitter.

Anthem

Part of the Anthem of the Cultural and Deportiva Leonesa
Letra: Angel Arredondo Giraldo

«Like the snow in cold winter.
covers all of Leon white.
It's the color you saw the team,
I'm in my heart.

The lyrics and music of the official hymn of the Cultural Leonesa was created and composed by Ángel Arredondo Giraldo, and is performed by the Leonese folk music group La Braña. On April 29, 2007, the new anthem composed by Manuel Quijano (father of the members of Café Quijano) was presented to all the fans, which was rejected by the fans and the anthem by Ángel Arredondo Giraldo was recovered in the matches.

This is the hymn sung: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBiapN8jS18

Shield

The shield of the Cultural and Sports Leonesa is based on a red rampant lion crowned and sole (symbol of the city of León), surrounded by a circle, also red, in which the name of the club is inserted: &# 34;Cultural and Sports Leonesa" with white letters, finished in the upper part of the circumference with a red Crown, with white and orange decorations, a symbol that it carries as a representative club of the capital of the Old Kingdom of León. Its design is by Máximo Sanz.

The current design dates from 2018.

Leonese derby

The Leonese derby is a football match played by Cultural and Sports Leonesa and Ponferradina, as they are the two most powerful teams in the province of León. Throughout history, they have faced each other in official matches corresponding to the League (Second Division "B" and Third Division of Spain), in the Copa de Castilla y León soccer and occasionally in the Copa del Rey. In addition, they have played multiple friendly matches. The rivalry between both teams is not comparable in the entire province of León. In these matches, it is normal for the visiting fans to go en masse to support their team in the opposite stadium.

When Cultural and Sports Leonesa was in the Third Division of Spain, there were derbies between Club Atlético Bembibre, Club Deportivo La Virgen del Camino, Club Deportivo Ejido de León, Sociedad Deportiva Hullera Vasco-Leonesa, Atlético Astorga Fútbol Club and even with the disappeared Maestranza Aérea de León.

In recent years, with the S.D. Ponferradina in the Second Division of Spain and the ephemeral passage of the Cultural and Sports Leonesa through the Third Division of Spain, there have also been derbies between the capital club and other teams from the province of León, such as against Club Atlético Bembibre, Club Deportivo La Virgen del Camino or Atlético Astorga Fútbol Club.

In the 2016/17 season, after the relegation of SD Ponferradina, the main León derby was recovered, which had not been played since both played in the same category in 2009/10. In addition, with the relegation of Atlético Astorga Fútbol Club, it will be the only Leon derby to be played in the Second Division B of Spain.

The last Leonese derby between Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa and Ponferradina, played on April 7, 2019, was 1-1.

Stadium

The first homes (1922-1948)

Since in July 1922 the president of the Cultural, Miguel Díez Canseco, asked the León City Council for a space in which to build his field, until the arrival at the El Ejido stadium in 1948, the Cultural toured many corners of the city. First it was El Parque, where there was already a municipal playing field, located on the outskirts, on the area today known by the same name.

With the expansion of the social mass, the team moved in 1926 to Campo de Guzmán, located on the current Avenida de Roma and which received that name for being near the statue dedicated to the Leonese soldier. He played there until his first disappearance in 1931. The brief resurgence of 1936 took him to the San Mamés field, which years later will be the center of the Leonese youth academy.

After the war, the Club took its first steps in the current Eras de Renueva neighborhood, in the field that the Falange Española University Student Union used to play soccer and rugby. The success of this resurrection led him to play at La Corredera between 1940 and 1948, the year in which, due to the crisis caused by the alleged fixing of a match against Albacete Balompié, he had to leave this venue to move to El Ejido. During this course, while a series of works were being carried out, the Cultu played some matches at the Estadio Hispánico, recently built and already called then to be the heart of sports in the capital of Bernesga.

The first great feud: El Ejido (1948-1955)

That crisis of 1948 brought out the most generous part of the city. El Maestranza, another great team from the city, made up of soldiers from the La Virgen del Camino Air Base, ceded its stadium, located in the El Ejido neighborhood, so that La Cultural could complete that resurgence of the summer of 1948.

The La Corredera grandstand was moved there, and little by little, the field was expanded until it could accommodate the public on all four sides of the field. It was presided over by a characteristic circular marker.

In this stadium, the Cultural lived its best moment. It was promoted to the First Division on April 10, 1955 and made its debut in that category on September 11 of that same year. The last game played there was against Valencia, in which the Leonese won by three goals to nil. Space problems led our Cultu to a new house, and the Ejido, until its demolition a few years later, was the stronghold of the Leonese quarry.

The legend of Antonio Amilivia (1955-1998)

On October 23, 1955, before some 27,000 people (more than double its capacity), the municipal stadium of La Puentecilla was inaugurated against Athletic Bilbao. The dizzying figure of 1,083,044 pesetas was raised in that game. After so many years, for the first time the Cultural had a real stronghold in which to assert its potential in the First Division.

The facilities gradually improved. For example, it did not have fixed lights until the 1970s. The characteristic scoreboard on the north end, known among the fans as “Marcador Dardo”, simultaneously reported the results of the First Division and became the main hallmark of the venue.

His modesty caused his deterioration to be rapid and by the end of the 70s he already presented serious deficiencies, especially in the changing rooms. Even so, the situation did not change until the 1990s, when the City Council, owner of the field, reformed the changing rooms thinking of doing a total remodeling of it. However, other solutions were chosen and on October 31, 1998 they played the last game at this venue against Barakaldo, closing four decades of the history of culturalism.

Sports area of Puente Castro (1998-2001)

The farewell to Antonio Amilivia, always impregnated by a romantic nostalgia, brought with it a total renovation of the city's sports facilities. After years of overloading the Amilivia and looking for alternative venues for the quarry, León and the Cultural began to have a sports city located in Puente Castro.

The spectacular facilities of the Puente Castro Sports Area have a natural grass field, an artificial one, a rugby field and a mini-stadium where the Cultural played three seasons and a promotion phase. It also became the headquarters of the clubs of the culturalist youth team, as well as other teams. This inevitably means that today this venue is synonymous with culturalism.

The Kingdom of León (2001-)

In May 2001, in the promotion phase against Xerez CD, the Nuevo Antonio Amilivia was inaugurated, a beautiful field with a capacity for more than 13,000 spectators that has all the conditions to have international matches. In 2009 and on the occasion of the MC Anniversary of the Kingdom of León, it changed its name to recover the memory of the ancient medieval kingdom and was renamed "Reino de León Stadium".

The main culturalist events that it hosted in its brief but intense history were in the different editions of the Copa del Rey in which our club managed to qualify for rounds in which it had to face First Division teams. Thus, top-flight teams such as "Euro Depor", Atlético de Madrid on two consecutive occasions, Athletic Bilbao, Albacete Balompié, Rayo Vallecano, Racing de Santander, FC Barcelona in the best moment in its history and the Real Madrid Football Club, European champion that year.

Other important matches it has played have been as the venue for the Spanish under-21 team and the senior team on two occasions, against the Armenian soccer team in 2003 and against the Costa Rican soccer team in 2015.

On September 2, 2022, Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa played a friendly against the Qatar National Team, with a 0-3 result.

The characteristics of the stadium make it an ideal stadium for a city like León; a fief at the level of the entity and the aspirations of the team, whether in the First Federation, Second Division or even at higher levels.

Fans and clubs

The fans of Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa, known as "los culturalistas", went into a great free fall during the 90s and the first decade of the 2000s, one of its strong improvements It is about the 2011/2012 season in which the number of members is increased from 1,500 to 3,000.

In the 2012/13 season, the club reaches 1,500 members at the beginning of September. In the first three weeks of September, the club reached 1,606 members, of which 60% are renewals and 40% are new subscribers. The 812 members of the previous season had not yet withdrawn their new card.

In the 2013/2014 season, it repeats figures from the previous season at the beginning of September.

Clear rise in membership in 2015/16, with the arrival of Aspire and the completion of 2014/15 in sixth position, fighting for Play-Off positions for promotion to the Second Division. They end up exceeding 3,000 members. Already in the 2016/17 season, the Peñas want to give a boost and create the Cultural Animation Stand located in the South end, a space where all the peñas come together with the main objective of giving color to the stands.

ROCKS:

  • The Lion Rampante

It arose in the west stand to be able to animate the Cultural and Sports Leonesa every day. Over time, it moved to the north end where it remained until the 2010/2011 season. In the following two seasons, in the Third Division, he moved to the southern bottom with the Orgullo Cazurro supporters club. When the team returned to Second Division B, the supporters club returned to the North Fund, until the 2016/17 season in which the Culturalist Animation Stand was created and all the Supporters Clubs were grouped in the South Fund.

Currently, it is part of the national interpeñas tournament, in which several supporters clubs from the national territory meet every year (Córdoba, Éibar, Logroño, Palencia, Salamanca, Barakaldo, Gijón, San Sebastián, etc.).

  • Pride Cazurro

It was created in 2008 and is located in the south end.

  • Culturalist Pena Toribio Morán

The Toribio Morán supporters club was founded in 1997 and is the oldest, despite its absence during the relegation to Third Division. It is located at the north end of the stadium. It is the only rock that does not want to be part of the Grada de Animación Culturalista so its location does not change. It currently has more than 150 members.

  • Guzmán Group The Good

It was created in 2014 and is located in the south end.

  • South Fund Tripers

It was born in November 2015 and is located in the south end.

  • The white stone

It was born in 2017 and is located in the south end.

Support clubs outside of León:

  • Peña Culturalista Madrileña

It was also created in November 2015 and is based in Casa León in Madrid. It had 10 members in its foundation, currently there are 40 partners. It is part of the Grada de Animación Culturalista. When its members go to the Kingdom of León, they are located as a general rule in the South Fund.

The idea with which the peña was born is to unite all the Leonese who are exiled in the capital to see the Cultural and to be able to keep alive the culturalist feeling from afar. They will meet at the headquarters to watch the matches broadcast by the club on streaming or any regional television. They will also organize trips to away matches and even to some that are played at the Reino de León Municipal Stadium.

But the culturalists in Madrid do not want the organized events to be merely sporting. The founders also want to hold meals and cultural events to make "a little pineapple from León in the capital, since from time to time you miss getting together with others from León in Madrid".

Sporting events will also be a pillar of the supporters club, such as soccer triangles with other supporters clubs of foreign teams based in Madrid, such as those of Sporting or Oviedo, with whom they have already maintained contacts.

  • Peña Culturalistas en Barcelona

He was born in 2016.
