The cubic meter (symbol: ) is a unit of volume. It corresponds to the volume of a cube with an edge of one meter. It is the coherent unit of the International System of Units for volume. It is equivalent to one kiloliter (1000 liters).

Symbol and abbreviations

Its symbol is exclusively m³. Being a symbol, it does not admit a point, capital letter or plural. The full name cubic meter or the aforementioned symbol must be used. It is occasionally incorrectly abbreviated as "m3", "M3", "m^3", or "CBM" when superscripts and markup language are not possible (for example, in some typed documents or in groups News Usenet, or in Logistics sectors).
