Animal cencer sounds in Meteora, Kalambaka.

The cowbell is a small and crude bell, generally cylindrical and made of copper or iron sheet that is hung from the neck of cattle. The sound of the cowbell helps the farmer identify and locate the animal that carries it.

In the north of Spain, and especially in Cantabria, bells are called bells carried by cows, whose mouth is generally narrower than the handle, and which have a horn clapper. The cowbell is placed on the Alpha male or female (the one the rest of the pack has as the leader) to identify him/her. If you take the Alpha and take him out to pasture, for example, the rest of the herd follows without having to herd them.
