Cornelia Funke (Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia, December 10, 1958) is a German writer of children's and youth literature.

Biography

After graduating from St. Ursula's High School in Dorsten, Funke obtained a degree in theoretical education in Hamburg. She studied pedagogy and illustration and soon began working as an illustrator of children's books and writing for young audiences. She also wished to become a pilot or live with the redskins. Subsequently, she worked three years as a social worker for disadvantaged children. The stories of those children inspired her to write and illustrate her books. She is currently 62 years old
