Since its founding in 1947, Copa Airlines has used various different fuselage designs to commemorate sponsorships or relevant dates, such as the special ornament worn by its fleet of Boeing 737-700s in November 2003, in honor of 100 years of the Republic of Panama. The special livery consisted of the official centenary logo and the portrait of the first president of Panama, Manuel Amador Guerrero.

On February 3, 2011, Panama's tourism authority worked with Copa Airlines to create a special livery for a Boeing 737-800 with a Panama butterfly logo and the URL "visitpanama.com.&#3. 4;. This was part of an effort to promote tourism in Panama. As of 2013, the aircraft no longer has the logo on the left forward.
