Conspiracy of Silence (Bad Day at Black Rock) is a 1955 American film directed by John Sturges and with Spencer Tracy, Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine, Lee Marvin, Walter Brennan, Anne Francis and Dean Jagger as lead actors.
Plot
John J. Macreedy (Spencer Tracy) gets off the train at the station in a tiny isolated town, Black Rock, in the western United States, to present a man of Japanese origin (Komako) with the military medal that was He awarded it to his son killed in combat during World War II for his heroism.
The townspeople are inexplicably hostile to the newcomer, and the tension rises to extremes, as they hide a secret that they guard jealously.

Awards and nominations
In 1956, the film was nominated for three Oscars: Best Director, Best Actor (Spencer Tracy) and Best Adapted Screenplay. Spencer Tracy won the Best Actor Performance Award at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival.
