The Comorian (Shikomori) is the most widely used language in the Comoros and in neighboring Mayotte, which belongs to France.

It is a Swahili dialect with a strong influence from Arabic and is one of the three languages spoken in the Comoros along with French and Arabic. Each island has a different subdialect; that of Anjouan is called Shindzuani, in Mohéli Shimwali, in Mayotte Shimaore, and in Grand Comore Shingadzija. In 1992 there was no official script, but the Arabic and Latin alphabets are used.
